I don't expect this to amount to a hill of beans to you, but I'm gonna try to put some stuff on the site that is just kinda... I don't know... getting to know me type things. I'm just a regular kinda guy. So I'll share some things of an everyday life variety so we can have a more friendly relationship rather than an "Artist / Fan" awkward deal happening.

I don't have cable or satellite. I have a PlayStation 3 and watch TV via Netflix and Hulu. In the bedroom I have a Roku box, which serves the same purpose. I just got tired of paying all the money for cable. When I was growing up we had cable. We had ONE HBO and ONE Cinemax channel because...well, they only had one. I didn't get internet in my home till 2005. But now I have internet and no cable. Can't say I miss it. I might be a little late on the seasons of my favorite shows, but I can live with that just fine.

I don't usually like to watch shows till they get a few seasons under their belt. I hate getting into a show, getting to like the characters and settings, then the network cancels it. It happened twice recently. We started watching two shows with the kids... Let me clarify something real quick. We have what we call "kid shows", which doesn't mean it's Disney channel stuff, just stuff that's Ok for the kids to watch. So, The "kid shows", we had been watching 'No Ordinary Family' on ABC which we all enjoyed cancelled after an open ended season finale. I was non too happy. We also watched 'The Cape' on NBC, which ended worse because they cancelled it BEFORE the season finale and tried to condense the final three episodes into one. That turned a good show into a disappointing mess!

Here are some shows I really dig. True Blood, Justified, American Horror Story, Dexter, Sons Of Anarchy, The League, Blue Mountain State. These are the ones we watch when kids go to bed. Some that we watch with the kids are Storage Wars, Swamp People, Gold Rush, Warehouse 13, Fact Or Faked, Psych, American Pickers, Auction Hunters, Sons Of Guns. There's some others in there. I'll watch ANYTHING with Gordon Ramsay.

So there you go. I'll link this kinda stuff to my Twitter (My Preferred Social Experience) and Facebook. If you have any comments or suggestions on something shoot me a line at one of those places. News: House Concerts / Almost Austin TONIGHT!

I would like to implore all of you to do something this year. If you've never been to a House Concert, you I would like to suggest 2012 be the year you find one in your area and attend a show. 'House Concerts' may be a bit of a confusing term. Sometimes they are held in Churches, such as the case of Heights Live or Uncle Calvin's Coffeehouse. Sometimes there are in a building whose sole purpose is as a music venue, such as Red Dragon. They are places to go to hear music in an intimate setting, where folks aren't in attendance with the intent to getting fall down drunk, and where your libel to be warned of being thrown out if your disturbing others by chatting during the show. They are LISTENING ROOMS.

One of my personal favorite venues, Almost Austin House Concerts in Pasadena, TX is hosting a show TODAY and would be an excellent way to get into the House Show spirit! Kenny Pipes will feature the fantastic twosome of Danny Schmidt and Carrie Elkin right there on his living room stage. Hey everyone, hope all is well this holiday season.

In 2011 Sauna Studios and Cinder Shack Records put out Huke Green's "Rustic Poet" to much success. It was a highly acclaimed in Europe and here at home. Sauna Studios will be busy again here in the start of 2012 to bring a couple of exciting projects to you.

First:

We are wrapping up Ben Hall's sophomore release, 'Scars and Stars'. We are just waiting for some final studio instrumentation to be completed and then post production work. 'Scars & Stars is shaping up to be a mighty successor to Ben's first outing, 'Second Harvest', which you can pick up RIGHT HERE!

Also coming in 2012:

Baytown's legendary guitar man, C.T. Worley, has been green-lit for some time in Sauna Studios. C.T. has been a part of our musical family for over a year now and we think it's time he puts down some tracks for an album. He has crafted some mighty fine tunes and I think you are gonna dig this project!

I have also begun to fool around with some things in the Studio and have an idea of how my next album will shape up. I'll get into recording it once Ben Hall's album is complete and will be going on along with C.T.'s project. I will say that the next album will be even more sparse than 'Rustic Poet' with only a few filled out songs. We're going to explore a different recording technique that I hope will fully benefit the bare bones fashion of most of the songs. No tentative date for the project to be available to the public is being set. I am going to work at my pace until I am happy with it but, hopefully it will be done in time for a 12-21-2012 release.

So, There's what's on the agenda for now. Merry Christmas to you and yours...

Casey Royer (The Jobe Wilson Band) and I will be doing a stripped down songswap Saturday Dec 17th out at Turtle Bayou Landing, or TBL to the locals, out in Anahuac, TX. It's a great venue in a great little town. I will be driving to Waco that morning and heading promtly back so that I can get out on the Bayou for a great night of song and story. Son of a gun, we'll have big fun on the bayou!

Texas Ave. in Baytown gets shutdown for the annual 'Christmas on Texas Avenue' Street Festival, an extravaganza of crafts, food and specialty vendors, strolling entertainers and musicians, is set for Saturday, Dec. 3 in Baytown’s historic old Goose Creek area, spanning six blocks of the street.

Huke & Sam will be playing inside The Dirty Bay Beer Co. at 224 West Texas Avenue. The Band 'Last House On The Left' will be playing later in the evening under the Brunson Marquee

Also, There will be an antique car show, the Baytown Photo Club will be taking pictures of folks with Santa Clause and there will be a Christmas tree contest at the nearby Historic Museum.

School bands will perform Christmas concerts outside and break into groups to perform inside the businesses. Carolers will sing on stage and in strolling groups. Clowns and magicians will mingle with visitors.

There will be rides for children for a nominal fee. Face painters will be available at call. The Art League of Baytown will have a booth for children to decorate Christmas balls for $1 each and will also oversee a children’s sidewalk art contest.

Festivities will begin at 10 a.m. and some booths will remain open until 8 p.m. Admission is free.

“Our goal is to fill your heart with Christmas in downtown Baytown”, according to Gordom Ginzel, local business man and chairman of the event.

“We want everyone to join us.”

Primary sponsors are the Goose Creek Historical Society and the Art League of Baytown with the cooperation of the City of Baytown Parks and Recreation Department and other city officials.

News: The Kitchen Video Series #1 Early Grave

I like noodling on the ol' guitar whilst Cristi throws supper together. Our kitchen in quite cozy. Very down home. Gonna post some videos from the kitchen. Here is a song that's been around a while, but only played out enough times you can count on one hand.

I had these lyrics for some time and just couldn't get a music arrangement I was happy with. Ben Hall and I had a co-writing session at my kitchen table in the early days of the Front Porch Society. This session produced the completion of this song with Ben coming up with the music part, and also 'Delillah', which Ben Has ben playing for years solo and in the Dragliners

This song is about a "Suicide By Cop" in a grocery store parking lot. There are just some people who can't escape their dark deeds, no matter how bad they really want to. I feel bad for the guy here. He was born on the wrong side of the tracks and spent his life wanting to change, but knowing that he couldn't do so.

Hey everyone, Hope your finding this summer well. We've been busy this summer with lots of shows, including trips to the Hill Country. We are going to be back in Austin this Saturday at Cherrywood Coffeehouse, and yes, The have beer, wine, and REAL FOOD! I implore you near the Austin area to come out! We don't have much on the books after that and are gonna be working toward finishing Ben Hall's new album and possibly working on a Front Porch Society album, but you never know, our schedule could fill up quick!

Some advanced warning: We have a September and October show in Friendswood at the Dunn Bros. Coffee Pavilion. This is one of our favorite venues in the Houston Metro area and they should be delightful gigs with nice weather, so mark those down!

Also, We have a gig coming Oct 14th at Chicago Pizza and Italian Beef. I can not express enough how this is a not-to-be-missed night! We came across "The Beef" after our tour last year put us through Chicago. We had a late night quest for a Chicago pie after our gig which was almost for not until we found Mugs Pizza & Ribs, which is open till 3am. We drove with this hefty pie back to our motel room and it blew our minds! We thought for sure a city the size of Houston would have a place to get REAL Chicago style pizza, but after trying a few of the best names in Houston pizza, hope seemed lost. Then, we discover Chicago Pizza and Italian Beef in the heights. These guys are transpalnts from the windy city, and it shows! This is the ONLY place in town to get a true deep dish pizza! We hope you join us in October and see for yourself.

You may have noticed a change on the schedule for this coming Friday, March 4. We had been booked to play at Grampy Larry's on Lake Conroe, but Due to a change in ownership and remodel that show was cancelled. Instead We are now playing closer to home... in fact, a home-coming for me as we play in Channelview at 214 Sheldon Rd. at the newly opened Cajun food joint, Da Swamp Shak.

I wouldn't come to play any old place in my hometown, I waited for the RIGHT place to open up, and Da Swamp Shak delivers! They have hands down the BEST Cajun food this side of the Sabine! I have eaten there on many occasions and never had a bad bite. This isn't some frozen food heated up in the microwave, you got your Red Bans and Rice cooked overnight with tender peices of pork. It's hard to suggest something to eat there, because everything from the Blocker Burger, to the Gumbo, To the Fish Poboy with Cajun Mayo has been a home run!

Then on Saturday we are at Rudyard's British Pub. along with Ben Hall, The noble leader of the grunge grass band The Dragliners, and Casey Royer of The Jobe Wilson Band in a 'Songwriters in the Round' show presented by The Front Porch Society.

Needless to say, You don't want to miss the weekend of good music.

Looking for a one-of-a-kind gift this holiday season, or maybe just a little something special for yourself?

The Art League of Baytown can help.

While volunteers hang paintings, arrange jewelry and pottery displays, and figure out how to best show off the work created by the league’s artists and craftsmen, they’ve been keeping the gallery doors open whenever possible and welcoming some early shoppers.

An annual event that spotlights (and offers for sale) works by league members, the gallery is located at San Jacinto Mall this year, in a storefront just outside the Macy’s department store.

The official opening will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday. The gala opening evening will include snacks and musical entertainment by Walter Brown, the Wayward Sons, the Promizes and Mathew Potter and will, of course, offer the opportunity to browse among the arts and crafts and get a little Christmas shopping done early.

Items for sale at the shop include oil and acrylic works, watercolors, ceramics, pottery, hand-painted china, jewelry by several artists, handmade scarves and blankets, lovely walking sticks and hand-painted note cards. There are creations by artisans who work with beads and with glass, and wooden rocking horses and hand-tooled leather belts, holsters and wallets by an artist with a Western flair.

Many of the contributing artists have won awards for their work, such as photographer Randy Deerdoff, whose photos consistently win top honors in art shows throughout Texas and beyond, and J.D. Avant, whose realist style of oil painting has earned numerous accolades and prizes.

“We’ll also have a day when we offer children the chance to paint their own glass ornament, as we’ve have done at many galleries in the past,” said Art League President Bobby Sutphin. “We haven’t set the day for the yet but we’ll let you know.”

Sutphin said artists would conduct some painting demonstrations at the Gift Gallery throughout the holiday shopping season.

“People can not only come look at and buy paintings or crafts, but they can also watch our artists at work,” she said.

The league is selling tickets for some handcrafted prizes, which are on display at the gallery. Tickets cost $1.

The Gift Gallery is also a good place to go to find out about painting classes, the Baytown Photo Club and other activities related to the Art League.

Hello kiddies,

Not much going on this weekend. Travis is outta town so nothing Wayward. I think Sam has something going on too. I kinda wished I had booked some solo thing somewhere, but a weekend off could be nice too... Maybe. Keep checking my website "Quick Thoughts... via Twitter" to see if I am going insane from lack of playing out!

Since we knew in advance we had a off weekend, Cristi went and planned a girls night out. That leaves me here with a couple of, as Momma Green called us as kids, Hanyaks running round the house. I looked up Hanyak for the first time ever and dicovered It refers to people who do not use common sense, are insensitive to others and their environment, and are generally just stupid about what they're doing and their impact on others. Examples they give are: Did you see that hanyak cut across three lanes to make the light? OR That hanyak just butted way in front of the line we're in. So, now you know a usefull new word. Your welcome.. and Thanks to Momma Green for calling me and my sister that all those years.

So today I plan on organizing some areas of the house and having a pretty chill kind of day. If the hanyaks cooperate, they should have an easy day too. I saw on the PS3 that they have a horror movie that you can watch for free, so I'll check that out after the kiddos go to bed. The movie is 'Savage County'. The synopsis on Amazon reads: "A group of teens collide with their town's dark past when a prank gone wrong makes them the target of a family of bloodthirsty killers." Sounds like a winner to me! If you also watch it on PS3 give me a shout on the Comment portion of the site. It is to the left of the site right below the show schedule and social site links. Drop a line on whatever you feel like in fact.

Next Friday, October 29th, we have a Wayward Sons show at Cypress Saloon. We are in the opening spot for about 9pm and the headlining band is Rosehill. We will be hanging out after our show during Rosehill, come out to Cypress and have a good time with us.

Before I get to the goings-on, last Friday was a Show of Shows! Waywards, Grizzly AND Two Cow Garage... are you kidding me!? How do I decribe this show!? You had to be there. No words. Here's some pics...

On Sunday Kev and I gratefully accepted an invite to a BBQ in Huntsville yesterday hosted by Texas Music Revolt's Christopher Barfield and Come and Take It Entertainment's Dee Bolton. Let me tell you folks... These is good people. El C might come off brash on the Revolt page, But he is one of the coolest, most down to Earth cats I've met. Dee was vey cool as well and made some good grub for all of us. All of us included guys from The Jobe Wilson Band, Cypress Station, Josh Ward and various other kind folks hanging around. A good time was had by all and we took turns on the PA playing some tunes on the back deck. You should check out ALL of the above links, Follow along the with the Revolt and SEE THESE BANDS! This is the real deal folks, so if you like your music B.S. free and real down to Earth guys giving it to you... look no furthur.

This week we are having some Acoustic shows. Thursday at Mango's is day one, so if you're in the inner loop come check us out.

Saturday we return to LIT Hookah Lounge with a show for Smokers and Non-Smokers alike. Confused? Lit is a Hookah Lounge, So it's not very smokey and smells more like incense than Cigs. So EVERYBODY can come and enjoy the show, smoker or not.

Hello again Wayward friends! We had a good time this past weekend at Texas Tavern in Cypress. We kicked off the night for Charlie Hager and The Captain Legendary Band... Who are a bunch of very cool guys. Check them out when you get a chance and tell 'em the Wayward boys sent ya!

Last Thursday we played at Mango's at Taft and Westheimer. It's pretty much a pretty cool dive bar now. Nothing fancy... not a lot of decor and tables, just a place to drink some brewski's and rock out. The website still talks about getting some pizza and calzones, but they are not making 'em anymore. We seemed to have gotten ourselves a houseband gig every other Thursday there starting Oct 14th, so come out and see what we have going on.

This Saturday we head back out to Conroe. This time we are playing at TUTS Conroe opening the night for the Eric Brendan Band. We're looking forward to our first time at this venue and first time to see Eric Brendan and his band... which includes our very own Nathan Taylor. If you had a good time last Saturday night, you should get yourself on out to TUTS this weekend!

Freedom... we drive by a prison bus on the highway and thank God we are free. Is it so? Are we any more free than they?

How many of us spend eight hours a day working for people we don't believe in? Whatever happened to dreams? What is the price of dreams? Most people in the world worship a god backed by gold, and sacrifice him for their own personal luxury. We wake up. Eat. Work. Eat. Work some more. Eat. And then we reap the benefits of those sacrifices in front of a glowing box of moving pictures fixated on who may win the next big singing or dancing contest... All the while dying a little more inside as the days go by.

who wins in the end? Is it the guy with the most toys? The guy with the home in the gated community with three cars and a boat in his garage. The guy who when he came to the fork in the road took the easy path as opposed to the one of dreams. Because the path of dreams is hard fought. It takes heart. You have to sacrifice luxury for the big picture. You have to dig down deep when the world is mocking your determination and grit. You have to grind it as the waters that form a canyon wall.

How do you measure success? Is it a CEO in the oil industry with the big desk in the corner office? Was THIS his dream? Does he die a little with every promotion because it's too late to turn back now? What is the price of dreams?

News: Midwest 2010

My phone get's a text that wakes me at 5:27 am that reads "We're leaving my house now". It's from Sam Barker's phone, and he and Nathan Taylor are on the way to pick me up for our journey to the Midwest. I am not a morning person, not in the least. We load into Sam's Pontiac G6. I know some of you may be wondering why we packed 3 guys, 3 acoustic guitars, 3 electric guitars, a lap steel, 2 pedal boards, a Fender Blues Junior amp a Fender ProJunior Custom amp, a gig bad of chords and such, and all of our bags of clothes in a four door car instead of a Dodge Grand Caravan, which was sitting in the drive way. The reason was to save gas as the G6 gets double the miles per gallon of my van... and the REAL reason is it was more rock and roll to squeeze into the car.

We stopped at The Trinity river at Crawdad's gas station to get Breakfast. Sam Got his usual RockStar Energy drinks for the drive. I picked up my 'go to' with three bags of gummy worms for the times when I need to drive and need something to keep me awake. I spent Louisiana searching the iPhone app I downloaded to look for all the strange roadside oddities. The only thing in that particular state that was not really out of the way was the Britney Spears museum. It was in her hometown right before the Mississippi border. We decided that the Britney Spears museum being on a site for roadside oddities had to be worth checking out. We venture off of the freeway and find the place, but they are not open at the time. So with heavy hearts, we press on to Mississippi.

Our fellow Front Porch Society member Matt Harlan has a song called 'Skinny Trees of Mississippi' and now I totally get that title. They have Pines as far as the eye can see. Let me sum up Mississippi for you... trees, Jackson, more trees, Tennessee. Basically as I look at the iPhone GPS map, all of civilization in Mississippi is a few miles from the interstate. A pretty smart move to keep strangers passing through your state from being nosy, but the drive bores most folks. I personally love pine trees. Sam driving on a few hours of sleep was ill impressed. It was decided our trip back would be the route through Arkansas and East Texas. We stopped right before the Tennessee border and ate at Murhpy's Deli. I had the 'Big Nasty with the Comeback Gravy'. I didn't notice how... Um... BAD that sounded till Sam pointed it out as we waited at the table for the food to come. It was an Open Face roast beef sandwich with cheese and brown Gravy. The Big Nasty was good and the Comeback (Brown!?) Gravy made it a home run.

Memphis was a lot like Houston's 5th ward. Well, at least the parts we saw. We got into a small 'Artsy' area which is where Java Cabana was located. We went in and the vibe was artistic. We asked if we could drop our gear off while went we to see Sun Studios and they agreed to watch our stuff. Sun Studios was a education in some rock n roll history. I've never really listened to Elvis, but a lot of the Artists Sam Phillips first worked with were Delta Blues guys from Mississippi, and I'm a big fan of Delta Blues. We also stopped in at a place called Goner Records which was walking distance from Java Cabana. That only made me wish I had a record player, as I ran across some pretty cool albums.

The Gig at Java was pretty good. The packed house listened and all was well. They Dug it. The Fine folks who ran the joint said there were many complements. The PA was Vintage. True vintage, not new 'Road worn' like the stuff guitar companies are putting out now. In fact I thought my Shure Beta 58 was broken. I was getting NOTHING from it. This happened once to me at Rudyard's and the Mic worked afterwards. I need to contact Shure about this I think. It wasn't a cord issue, another mic plugged in worked fine. (FYI: I did plug the Beta in today at home into my PA and it worked like a champ)

We hung out at Java and listened to a few other folks do an Open mic till they shut the place down . Nice night. We chatted with some locals and made some friends. The skies started to growl as I was chatting with a local fella outside so we said our goodbyes before the rains hit. Now, we had a game plan of having local foods on this trip, but at this time of night no Memphis BBQ joints had OPEN signs on. We cross the mighty Mississippi River into Arkansas and headed North toward Missouri. The only thing we found open was Taco Bell. We got our "Border grub" and the plan was an all-nighter to Chicago. We got to New Madrid, Missouri when the final verdict to stop for the night came to pass and the $39.99 was well worth it. Sam and I ended up sharing a bed and Nathan got one all to himself.

We had a nice Breakfast for a $39.99 room, in fact, they had the best Continental Breakfast I'd ever seen. They had Biscuits and gravy, breakfast sausage, scrambled eggs... They even had a Pepsi Fountain machine! If you're ever in the area Thrifty Inn is a good stay.

Our quest to see "the worlds biggest ____" or any other roadside oddities was coming up fruitless. I found some good things to see, World's Largest ball of hair, World's Largest red cedar bucket, The Crossroads where Robert Johnson sold his soul to the Devil to become the King of the Delta Blues, ETC... but those places would put us way off our route. We did come across a Big Abe Lincoln outside of a Cherry Picker place right off the Highway in Illinois enrout to Chicago and this would be our one and only brush with roadside Oddity this trip. Now, we did see some oddities outside of Wrigley Field. A giant Macaroni Noodle on one side, and the VERY creepy Harry Carey Statue on the other.

We roll into downtown Chicago on our way to some Folks by the name of Patti and John that Sam knows via the Bottle Rockets message board. They live a stones throw away from Wrigley Field and agreed to let us park in their parking garage to keep our stuff safe while we went walking around Downtown Chicago. This city was Awesome! We rolled in right along Lake Michigan and the Downtown Skyline. Wow! Impressive to say the least. Chicago has a large amount of trees and the majority of the buildings had windows open. The weather and vibe was perfect. We strolled around and hit up Wrigley. Awesome place. On one side there is this giant noodle.

This was not far from the famous Marquee. We kept walking around the stadium and came across The Harry Carey statue. I loved Harry as a kid. We watched the Cubs on WGN. But I don't get the "Hellraiser" themed monument... I mean, look at this thing!

I had a hard time sleeping in Chicago knowing this thing was near! What's with the 'Damned Souls' coming out of his legs? Why does he look so evil!? This is not the Lovable Harry I know!

We head back to Patti and John's place for a gourmet dinner on their balcony. It was GOOD stuff. Like food from a high-class place. Not your usual Indie rock star microwave burrito fare... I'm still curious what those hotel maids in Kerrvile, TX thought when they saw the aftermath of Sam's Exploding Burrito. Oh to be a fly on that wall.

We head to Fat Tone Guitars for the gig. This ain't nothing like Guitar Center! Phil has some cool stuff and a high-class showroom here. If you are looking for a good Guitar or some real good pedals, Phil is your man... and you can get it shipped straight to your house. Phil has a NICE stage built in his showroom and we enjoyed playing on it.

We determined we would NOT leave Chicago without eating Chicago Pizza. This lead to a nice "Licenses to Drive" esque adventure in which the trusty iPhone saved the day again and by 12:30am we had made our way to Mug's Pizza and Ribs... open till 3am. All the others had closed at midnight while we lingered around Fat Tone checking out pedals. We went in, placed our order of a Pepperoni Chicago Pie, and waited outside the hour for it to get cooked. It was a small ordering room and had no seating. Carry out or delivery only. Nestled between a printer repair place and a Liquor store it was a hole in the wall. It was PERFECT! After the hour, Sam Brings the pizza and sits it in my lap. He tells me to pick it up... as I reach for it he says "Both Hands". It had some weight... my mouth was watering.

15 minutes later we're back at the hotel after passing the airport. Rule of thumb, don't stay at places by the airport. Consider this a PSA. They are always scary... ALWAYS!. After using a bell hop cart to bring in our Guitars and stuff, and being asked by the clerk if we was "Gonna make noise, Cuz people always come in here making noise" we make it past the drunks fighting in the hall to our room. Did I mention DON'T stay at a place by the airport No matter the city... Just Trust me.

We open the Pizza box and it's like the scene from Pulp Fiction where Samuel L. and Johnny T. open the case and the glow of awesomeness comes out. This Pie was done right for a Chicago Pizza. Crust, Topping, Cheese Crust again and Sauce on top. I know this is right, this kinda Upside down order, because of Food Network. Now I'm really ready for it. It was AWESOME. Go to Mug's if you are in Chicago. We all agree it was the poop with corn and peanuts and I have been officially turned from NY style to Chicago Pizza being king. Man it was good!

I again shared a bed with Sam. Nathan is too quick at marking his territory. Sam and I always end up sharing when the beds are few and sharing is necessary. The rule is there is really not a rule for sleeping arrangements. The rule is first to claim a spot gets it and the last share. Sam and I are always too mellow and end up in the same bed. It's all good. He is Cuddly. Off to Saint Louis.

Between Chicago and Saint Louis we stop in Decatur to have lunch with My Aunt Mo, Uncle Neil, and their two Daughters who are of course my Cousins. My cousin Barb's husband was there too. I haven't seen them in probably 16 years, Way too Long! It was so good spending time with them and I really hope to get up there to see them again soon.

Bottle Rockets message board come through again as we are set to stay with Bottle Rocket frontman Brian Henneman. We pull up and Janet Henneman greets us as she happens to be outside at her car. Brian comes out to greet us and marvels at the car packing skills. Then we head inside to meet the head of the house, the family dog, Rocco. The Henneman's are super cool down to earth folks. There was not a quiet moment in the Henneman House... between Guitar and tour talk, and the rules not to touch Rocco's toy monkey, there was not a dull moment and we felt more than welcome.

The Wedge was a cool place and had a nice stage. The folks running the place treated us well and we had a nice crowd, mostly from the Bottle Rockets message board. Nathan had some friends he hadn't seen in about 16 years that he got a chance to catch up with. Good gig and good response from the crowd. I can see us at the Wedge again in the future. On the local food front again we were out of luck with places being open so we pick up supper from 7-11, I had Funyuns paired with A&W Rootbeer.

We get back to the Henneman's and they had gone above and beyond to find us two extra beds to ensure we all had a comfortable stay. (Told you they are super cool.) We sat around Brian's kitchen table and ended up talking till about 4am before we realized "Crap, It's 4 am!" and made our ways to our beds, mine and Nathan's beds had been set up in the living room and Sam ended up in the "Otis Gibbs" suite.

I was woke up by a text from Cristi right about noon. Uh oh... we were supposed to LEAVE at 11! Looking over I see Nathan is still asleep, so I'm pretty sure I didn't get left behind. I told you I'm not a morning person, and non-morning people can't think straight right upon waking up. I hear voices from the Kitchen... it's Sam and Brian, they have been gabbin' since sometime after 8am. Non stop mind you. Nathan wanders in shortly after I do and we all get to gabbin' and realize if we don't leave soon, Nathan won't be back to open up Dry Creek at 6am. So we finally leave about 2:30pm... we could have seriously talked all day.

GPS says we will make it to Houston at 6:30ish. Time to lay the hammer down son! Sam has been driving the whole trip and he starts out again behind the wheel. We stop at a Diner, old school type, after leaving Saint Louis. Shortly after we get back on the road Sam says it's time for him to "Tap Out". I get behind the wheel and we head into the 13 hour final leg of the journey. Arkansas, Done... Hit Texarkana... We are on hwy 59 and back in Texas. We find a Burger King... It's 11:04pm. The Drive Thru is still open and we get our food "On the run" and keep on Trucking. I don't stop till we need gas in Cleveland, TX... I think. All I know is the "For a good time call..." Graffiti in the men's room of this truck stop has a 832 area code, which means we are close to home!

In Texarkana I put my iPhone on the Drive-By Truckers catalog on shuffle and end up making up some time... we get Nathan home at 4:15am. I was going strong still. I only used one bag of the gummy worms. I had the power of the Truckers to energize me... better than Red Bull and 5 Hour energy combined! 15 Minutes after dropping Nathan we pull into my driveway. We give each other props for an awesome tour and I make my way into the house. Time to go to bed at 4:35 am I crawl in bed, snuggle up to Cristi and say goodnight to the world as the sun starts to creep in. Rock on world... Rock on.

Hang Jones - The Ballad of Carlsbad County

The best Americana songs all have one thing in common: someone has to get shot. Singer/songwriter Hang Jones took this to heart when writing the songs for his debut album The Ballad of Carlsbad County. What began as a collection of bluegrass inspired country-rock songs evolved into a Western Outlaw-themed story album complete with hangings, gunfights, love, sex, and revenge. Jones credits two of his songs as catalysts for inspiring him to write a concept record. “When I began writing material for the new record, ‘Caroline’ and ‘Red’ were my favorites. I liked them for their cinematic quality, and they were a lot of fun to sing, but when I noticed that they could be chapters in a much larger story, I got really excited about rewriting all the other tunes to fit into the story.” The album chronicles the life and fall of William Bishop. Born the son of a notorious outlaw, William, at an early age, witnesses his father’s capture and hanging. He spends his developmental years wrestling with the stigma of his father’s crimes (and punishment) while his mother stresses that William’s fate is not the same as his father’s. “I liked the idea of playing with free will versus destiny. Put the protagonist into situations where if he does what he feels is morally right, he will eventually wind up on the same road as his father, a man he himself views as amoral.” Each track on the album is a chapter in the story, taking William, and the listener, to the inevitable crossroads where our hero will have to decide his own fate: hang like his father, or live free like his mother taught him.

News: GRIZZLY at Rock Baby Rock It festival this weekend.

Our friends GRIZZLY are playing 'Big E's Rock Baby Rock It' festival this Saturday afternoon. There will be Hot Rods and Hot Wax spinning as well. You should go check them out at 3pm.

I'm going to start posting some of my favorite listening selections as "Must Own Album's", Because these are albums that I personally need on my iPod at all times. Hopefully I can turn you onto something you will enjoy. This is the first, and more will follow time to time.

Grayson Capps - Songbones

Word of this album has been circulating among Grayson Capps' fans for years. Recorded in 2003--two years before his debut album "If You Knew My Mind"--this magical, stripped-down session features Grayson on acoustic guitar and his longtime friend Tom Marron on fiddle. Recorded at New Orleans' 9th Street Pickin Parlor, Grayson let the tape roll, cutting the entire album in less than five hours. Appropriately titled "Songbones," Grayson's original renditions of songs like "Washboard Lisa," "I Can't Hear You," "Slidell" and "Mermaid," that have since become staples in his repertoire, are featured. Also included are rarities that have never been officially released like "Junior & The Old African Queen," "Guitar" and "Psychic Channel Blues." It's a pristine recording that captures Grayson's songwriting, voice and guitar-picking in all of its unadorned glory. Only 5000 copies of the album are being made available as a collector's piece for Grayson's diehard fans. "Songbones" is intimate, front porch music, honest, down-home and pure; all of the traits that make Grayson Capps one of the most important songwriters to emerge from the South in recent memory.

This Friday, The Harbingers of Happiness will be heading over to Waldo's Coffee House in the Heights! I'm going to drag a video camera along, I think, to get some quality footage from one of the best sounding rooms in all of Houston.

Also, later in the night, our good friends, The Dragliners, will be rocking out at The Corner Pub. If you're in the Conroe area, you should definitely make it over for this show. See you around town!

We Ladies and gents, Tonight I'm officially calling it summer. I know June 22nd is the Good Ol' American start date... even though here in Texas its more like Mid April. Tonight we will be in the Shadow of the mighty Galleria area with all the Inner Loopers at Dunn Bros. Greenway Commons. A Front Porch show on one of the largest Front porches around!

Tomorrow we play at one of our favorite spots, Waldo's Coffee House to kick off our "Gas Money Tour". Which reminds me, A week from now we will be on the road heading into Memphis, TN to Java Cabana. I've never been to Tennessee, so i'm excited to see what it's like there. We won't have much time there as we roll on into Chicago (Northbrook to be exact) for a show at Fat Tone Guitars. I have people in Illinois, so I'm glad to have a show out that way. We also have some super cool people who are givin us a garage to park our stuff in while we see the sites such a Wrigley Field. They also said they would feed us a home cooked supper, which should be a welcome treat fom the Red Bull and Honey Bun diet we will have for the rest of the journey.Well, I hope to lunch between Chicago and Saint Louis with some of my Family members who can't make the shows, so maybe two good meals.

What's going on in Saint Louis you ask? Why on Saturday the 26th we play The Wedge. I hear some of my Missouri Family will be here and that Nathan has some people coming too. So if you are in any of these cities, come out and show some love. I'll be putting up some road blogs and such, so check back for those to see how the trip is going.

Waldo's Coffee House in the Historic Houston Heights is THE place to be in Houston this weekend. It will be a Front Porch Society weekend of great local Singer/Songwriter performances. On Friday night The Harbingers (Huke Green & Samuel Barker) will be on the stage. Then on Saturday night the legendary Halling Ass (Ben Hall & Matt Ling) will be in the House.

Waldo's is truely a Coffee House... it is a historic home turned Coffee house venue. The old wall and floors in the small living room provide some of the BEST acoustics in Houston.
